My brother Neel and I received a $500 Grant from Kindness Grows Here for our project Valentines for Seniors! We visited a local nursing home for Valentine’s Day and hand delivered a gift bag to each resident and spent time talking to them. Each bag contained a “Heart of Kindness” with an uplifting message, a warm cozy blanket, and a soft stuffed animal. We felt so much happiness chatting with the seniors and seeing the smiles on their faces. We could tell how much it meant to them to be remembered and cherished on this holiday that is all about showing love and caring for others. Our hearts were filled with joy at being able to brighten up their days and provide them with warmth and comfort. It was so personally rewarding and meaningful to us to spread happiness and to create a festive atmosphere in the nursing home. Delivering cheer to older adults showed us how small acts of kindness can make a huge impact. We truly felt that it was better to give than to receive. We hope to continue Valentines for Seniors as an annual tradition.
